Extreme Makeover Tips: Spring Fashions
Tip #455 Cleanin' out my Candles
Taking dried wax off glass votives can be quite a difficult task. Not anymore! First, line up
your votives on a flat surfact (which may end up getting a little wet). Boil a pot of water,
then pour it into a pitcher that can withstand the heat without breaking. Immediately pour
the scalding water into the votives, filling them to the top. Let the water sit for a minute,
and the heat should release the wax's grip from the glass and make it float to the top of
the water. Pour out the water (NOT into a sink, or else the wax will re-dry and clog the
pipes). Finally, dip a clean cloth into the boiling water, and use that wet cloth to wipe the
votive clean.
In seconds (and hours less than it used to take you), you have sparkling votives once
again.
Tip #24 Table spacing, part 2
When planning out guest seating, it's sometimes difficult to imagine how much space
you'll need. The key rests in basic mathamatics. Get out your calculators, everyone! Each
person at a table will need approximately 10 square feet for a buffet. For example, 10
people can sit at a 60" round table, which will take up approximately 100 squre feet (a
10x10' square). 4 people can sit at a cocktail table, which takes up approximately 40
square feet (a 6x6' square). For a hand-plated dinner, allow 15 square feet per person.
The difference is because a hand-plated dinner needs a bit more room for the servers to
maneuver between the dining room.
Tip #224: Skirting Tables
A poorly skirted table can make your event look cheap. To properly skirt a table, first
ensure that the tablecloth is on evenly. Next, place velcro clips about 18" apart, making
sure there is at least one on every corner. Finally, starting with the back of the table,
attach the skirt to the clips as tightly as possible. This will ensure that the skirt will not
sag, but fit sharply along the edge of the table.
